WRITERS AND ARTISTS CALLED TO JOIN THE COLLECTIVE STORY
Pique's first serial story seeks contributors

January 17 2007

Whistlerites said they wanted 2010 to be an opportunity to tell their stories to the world.

It might not be exactly what they had in mind, but this winter, the Pique is partnering with The Vicious Circle (Whistler's Writers Group) and the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, to give Whistler a chance to collaborate on telling one seriously juicy tale in the form of a Serial scandal-filled Novel.

The first chapter, written by Cindy Filipenko, will appear in the Pique next week.   It launches the story with murder of an ambitious property developer and the mysterious disappearance of Whistler's most successful realtor.

Nine chapters will follow, scribed and illustrated by the first writers and artists to enter the collective fray with their pencils at the ready.

To sign on to write or illustrate a chapter, artists and writers are asked to email lrichardson@watermarkinc.ca .   Once assigned a particular chapter, the writers will have 72 hours to scribe their 1000 word contribution. Artists will have a week to illustrate the previous week's story with a 5 x 5 inch graphic, featuring "the story so far".

The first five writers and artists to sign up to participate will receive a free ticket and a free drink for the February 19 Literary event, Group Therapy, taking place at The Path Gallery.

The Serial Pulp Fiction is the third generation collective work penned in Whistler, following the 2005 and 2006 Collective Novel Experiments, written on-site, marathon-style, in gondolas and king-sized bedroom suites at the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

All participating writers and illustrators will receive a special limited edition copy of the complete work, which will be displayed at Brave Art at the 2008 TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, April 11-20 2008.

The TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival is produced by Watermark Communications, a Whistler marketing & communication company, and presented in partnership with Tourism Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb.
